WHY SHOULD YOU VOLUNTEER?
Are you passionate about international volunteering and eager to make a positive impact on the world? If so, now is the time to embark on a life-changing journey with Lifted Strong in Arusha, Tanzania.
Tanzania is not only one of the most widely-known African countries but also one of the most in need. A significant portion of its population grapples with the harsh realities of poverty, alongside various health and safety epidemics.
Foremost among these challenges is the HIV/AIDS crisis, affecting men, women, and children across Tanzania. This far-reaching crisis has touched every facet of society, with many individuals lacking access to life-saving medication. Tragically, even young children are born with HIV after their mothers are infected.
At Lifted Strong, our volunteer program in Tanzania looks to support the community in a variety of ways. Our key programme areas include Womens Empowerment & Medical/Health Care.
We support a diverse group of women ranging from 15 to 40 years old who were unable to access education through the traditional Tanzanian education system. Over a 12-month program, we offer education in various areas, including English, Business, Health, and more, with the ultimate goal of helping them gain independence through income generation.
Lifted Strong would greatly benefit from volunteers who have skills in but not limited to: Teaching english, business and health, developing curriculum for teens and young women, marketing including social media & website design and involvement in previous NGO’s including raising funds, donations etc
MEDICAL & HEALTH
Our mission is to provide crucial assistance to local clinics and hospitals in Arusha, where resource shortages are a pressing issue. In addition, we actively engage in community outreach programs and home visits to reach those who lack access to healthcare. Our focus is on addressing conditions like HIV, diabetes, and malaria. As part of our program, you’ll have the opportunity to shadow local doctors, learn their techniques, and treat common diseases. Your responsibilities may involve rounds, prescribing medication, providing wound care, and assisting with childbirth.
TRAVEL & VISA INFORMATION
A ‘Volunteer’ visa is a prerequisite for volunteering in Tanzania and typically costs approximately US$100, with the exact fee varying based on the volunteer’s country of origin. While some nationalities have the option to apply for this visa in advance through their local Tanzanian Embassy, most volunteers conveniently obtain the volunteer visa upon their arrival at Arusha airport.
To ensure a smooth entry process, please make sure you have the necessary amount in US dollars to pay for the volunteer visa upon arrival (with the additional requirement that the banknotes must not be older than the year 2009). This visa is initially valid for three months and can be extended for an additional three months if needed.
It’s important to note that all travellers, including volunteers, are required to provide proof of return or onward tickets, possess all the necessary documents for their next destination, and demonstrate adequate funds to support their stay. This information ensures a hassle-free and successful volunteering experience in Tanzania.
